A Meditation on Life: Discomfort Zones

Life is “easy” to the degree that it is lived a safe distance from my fears.

This, of course, is not living; it is just not dying.

The guts to put my self-worth, worldview, public image, and physical safety on the line… no matter the outcome… introduces me to secrets of the universe the coward in me can never know… instilling an unassailable competence, confidence, and conviction born of first-hand experience… discovering my limits so that I can know the joy of transcending them… realizing that so many demons are just imaginings… and humbled, again and again, by the exposure of my shortcomings and prejudices, but empowered and ennobled by the discovery of talents and virtues that I did not know I possessed.
