What do I owe to my fellow creatures?

And what do they owe to me?

What am I entitled to, if anything, by virtue of my mere existence?

What does it really mean to have earned something… recognition, reward, or recompense?

How much wealth, health, safety, comfort, fun, and happiness do I deserve as a result of my efforts?

No matter how I ask such questions, the appreciation of what truly belongs to me and what does not should inform everything I do.

To that end, it seems to me that a good and ethical human, given the chance, must contribute something to the world… food, knowledge, safety, health, freedom, opportunity, hope, comfort, justice, love… to name but a few.

It also seems to me that he should consume no more than he contributes… and when fortune smiles upon him, he should never take more than his fair share.

How else can he possibly justify his existence?

  1. Frank: After reading over 70 of these postings, I am continuously amazed at the wellspring of thought-provoking, insightful words that come on a regular basis. You have compiled the makings of a book already, and I feel like you have much more to offer. Or, if “performance art” is of interest, maybe a “poetry slam” type presentation of a selection of your “works”. From my perspective, always entertaining, with many postings capable of launching an hour-long group discussion. My hat is off to you.

    • WOW! I am speechless with gratitude, Guy. Your most kind words of appreciation and encouragement fill me with a newfound enthusiasm to keep on writing and posting, no matter how slow and painful the process can be. And knowing that there really are sensitive human beings like you who resonate with my thoughts and feelings fills me with hope. All the best, man. Thanks and Peace.
