A Meditation on Life: Becoming a Person
I know I am on the right track…
… when I have the integrity to say Yes when I mean Yes and No when I mean No.
… when I realize that a life of doing is superior to a life of having.
… when I realize that not all things that hurt are bad for me and not all things that please are good for me.
… when my power comes from being an authority, not having authority.
… when I refuse to allow others to make my decisions for me.
… when my social relations are an expression of solidarity, not dominance, submission, or expedience.
… when my self-respect is more important than my popularity or social standing.
… when I refuse to waste a single heartbeat on blame and resentment.
… when I realize that fulfillment is about giving more, not getting more.
… when the only person I need to explain my behavior to is me.
… when any perpendicularity between my convictions and my actions causes me pain.
… when I come to terms with my own limitations, but also when I come to terms with my capabilities… those parts of me that demand something of me.
… when I know that, no matter how far I’ve come, I still have more growing up to do.
