You know, when I am discussing philosophy with someone and ask him a question and he replies that he does not know the answer, then that is the dawn of my respect for that person. But unfortunately most people do not admit their ignorance and would either give a rude answer or break off the conversation. This sort of people are the overwhelming majority of people.

Willful Ignorance ( self-deception, lying to yourself etc.) is the fundamental problem. Perhaps that is the place to start.
