A Meditation on Faith: Unified Field Theory

Is it possible that morality is just an illusion?

Are the altruistic intentions that we ascribe to such words as compassion, courage, and love just a grand self-delusion, a defensive reaction against meaninglessness? Are our “virtues” nothing more than morally-neutral behaviors bred into the gene pool by [undirected] natural and cultural selection?

On the other hand, what if our ethical impulses are for real… dare we call them divine?… even mightier than matter, light, heat, gravity, and electromagnetism… with the power to marshal the mechanistic laws of physics in their service?
