A Meditation on Faith: Enthrallment

“True believers” do not have faith…

… Their “faith” has them.

The human animal is so easily hypnotized by shiny things it does not understand…

… so easily captivated by charismatic speakers and grand spectacles.

… so easily aroused by simple-minded slogans and empty rhetoric.

… so easily buoyed by “heroic” anthems and the madness of the crowd.

Such intoxication, like all others, is always fleeting, of course… and the “true believer” is nothing without it…

… so, the pep talks, platitudes, and revivals keep coming and coming and coming…
