The Golden Rule, Part 13
LOVE… forever anguished by its limitations…
… by the realization that sometimes one good must be sacrificed for the sake of another.
… by the realization that one cannot love everybody one wants to love.
… by the realization that one cannot love everyone who needs to be loved.
… by the realization that some sufferings really are beyond the reach of all the love and care in the world.

A uniquely burdened and blessed citizen of the world thinking and acting out loud!
Ah yes, the limitations of love. Decades ago I said to myself there would be three things I would no longer engage: faith, hope and love. I found them insubstantial, weak, unproductive. Love is a big thing on this world; it means a whole lot of things to a whole lot of different people but in the end love changes nothing. Seems to me that as a concept it has no sustaining power (yes, exceptions noted and accepted). What would I replace it with that would not leave me empty, or staring up a brick wall? Compassion. That took care of it.
