Coming Out: The Seven-Letter-Word, Part II

Call me an atheist, if you will, but do know this…

Doing so is too narrow a charge of contempt… I am also an infidel, apostate, heathen, heretic, and blasphemer.

Call me an atheist, if you will, but do know this…

I am also an agnostic, skeptic, freethinker, humanist, scientist, non-theist, rationalist, naturalist, ecologist, feminist, secularist, anti-theist, existentialist, libertarian, and probably a few other “subversive” and “deviant” categories.

Call me an atheist, if you will, but do know this…

Doing so tells you almost nothing about who I am, what my ethics are, and what I stand for.

Call me an atheist, if you will, but do know this…

I love life. I love myself. I love my fellow creatures.

And I have a deep reverence for knowledge, freedom, honesty, beauty, opportunity, gratitude, integrity, creativity, curiosity, friendship, adventure, diversity, community, humility, generosity, fair play, enjoyment, thrift, understanding, spontaneity, play, affection, passion, empathy, autonomy, responsibility, science, reason, justice, courage, and compassion… each of these quite capable of standing on its own merits without sanction from any “authority”, earthly or divine.

  1. Excellent Frank. You not only allowed us to get a better understanding of who you are and what you believe, you have also accurately described me as well. I don’t like people labeling me for the very reason you stated above:

“Doing so tells you almost nothing about who I am, what my ethics are, and what I stand for.”

    Exactly. Well done sir.

    • Music to my ears, Stephanie! Resonance, not to be confused with group think and conformity, right?! : ) I am glad you found our little circle of friends here and that we found you, too! Thanks and peace.
