Coming Out: A Message to the Apologists, Part I

I know who you are.

And YOU know who you are.

And I am calling you out.

I am calling you out… not just on your poisonous beliefs… but on your disingenuous tactics.

I am calling you out… on your mischaracterization and demonization of non-believers.

I am calling you out… on your circular logic, rejection of evidence, half-truths, and outright lies.

I am calling you out… on your quote mining, taking things out of context, and putting words in the mouths of your challengers.

I am calling you out… on your censorship, passive aggression, double standards, straw manning, gaslighting, and gish galloping.

I am calling you out… on your hypnotic word salad, coded language, and cherry-picking from your vile “holy” books.

I am calling you out… on making a virtue of scientific ignorance and illiteracy.

I am calling you out… on your shameless changing of the subject when the question is inconvenient… on your cowardice to say out loud what you really think. (You know, and I know, that an honest answer would reveal your true colors and expose your bigotry and self-serving agenda for all to see.)

I am calling you out… on your (c)overt endorsement of the barbaric proscriptions and prohibitions in your “holy” books… in particular your condemnation of victimless “crimes”.

I am calling you out… on your patently bogus contention that wisdom, love, joy, creativity, kindness, affection, hope, and courage cannot exist without the tutelage of you and your crones… and without the sanction of your invisible friends in the sky.

I am calling you out… not only because your beliefs are unreasonable… but that they are poisonous… a cause of untold suffering everywhere.

Just in case you haven’t put all the above together, be advised:

I am accusing you of crimes against humanity.

And letting you know that your unchecked power to hoodwink and exploit the desperate and vulnerable with your toxic ideas is on its death bed.

  1. My eldest Uncle on my Mom’s side of the family is a wannabe LDS apologist. He is the only one of my mega-Mormon family who will engage with me. Passive aggressively, though. Oh, and he constantly advises me to keep an open mind, most likely to prevent decisions when the obvious answer is to make a decision about a topic. As if holding decisions in limbo makes it all right. All that does is assuage cognitive dissonance.

  2. Well said, Frank. If I may, I’d like to add that I’m am calling them out on their counterfeit love.

” I do understand what love is, and that is one of the reasons I can never again be a Christian. Love is not self-denial. Love is not blood and suffering. Love is not murdering your son to appease your own vanity. Love is not hatred or wrath, consigning billions of people to eternal torture because they have offended your ego or disobeyed your rules. Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being.”

  3. Hi Frank, That’s quite a list and heartfelt. You and Bruce have shown an aspect of Mormonism that fortunately I missed. Cousins and classmates ‘were called’ on missions (this was in the ’50 and 60’s), but I never talked with them about it.
That part of life that believers try to paint, each with their own personal brush, is backed up by a deep dark fear, to which they can’t admit, that the story is not true. GROG

  4. I’m not calling anyone out, but here to call circuitous apologetic drivel—maunder, rubbish, twaddle, clack, codswallop and anything else you can call it, I’ll agree. Great post Frank. Your pithiness is aphorismatic.

  5. The RC apologist org is Catholic Answers. I went to many of the discussions and classes. I found it interesting that even the pastor disliked them and wished they’d go away. They were not, as they claimed, defenders of the faith; but were in fact extremists representing the extreme right of conservative Catholic religious belief and were tightly wrapped politically.
