Coming Out: In Search of a Soul

All the evidence and all my experience scream loud and clear…

I don’t have a body, mind, and spirit…

… I am a body-mind-spirit…

… conscious, inexplicable, made of stardust.

All the evidence and all my experience scream loud and clear… that consciousness is nothing more and nothing less than the experience of what one’s eyes, ears, muscles, bones, heart, stomach, brain, and other organs are doing at the time.

That said, it’s quite magical… dare we call it miraculous… that Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon, and Nitrogen atoms, if combined in sufficiently complex and particular arrangements, produce something we all experience as hopes, fears, dreams, regrets, terror, resentment, hunger, thirst, jealousy, gratitude, heartbreak, lust, empathy, and affection… to name but a few.

And nobody has a clue how… or why.

That’s all I know for sure, and perhaps all we can ever know.

  1. You may dare. I would say ‘wonderous’ because you were able to break down our molecular structure based upon known stuff. Yet, here we are, in this reality, right here and right now. Cool, eh?

  2. An eternal soul. Now where did that idea come from? And then to make up stories that this has all come about because of a beneficent creator?! It must be pretty heady to think that we are the reason the universe was created! GROG

    • I, like you, do not feel so privileged, loved, and entitled, GROG.

But I would add… To the extent that a believer holds onto hope for some kind of supernatural post-life compensation for this life of misery, they have my deepest and most sincere compassion and sympathy… although I do not share their hope.
