“Hands Off” ABQ (April 5, 2025)

A celebration of Hands Off National Day of Action (April 5, 2025), Albuquerque-style…

… and what feels like just the beginning of a growing movement for people of goodwill to take our country back from the filthy rich and filthy powerful.

Special thanks to Tracy Abell who inspired me to attend and hats off to the organizers and volunteers who made this event happen.

Sidebar: While I’m glad that the event drew some big name speakers such as former depart of the interior secretary Deb Haaland, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller, New Mexico attorney general Raul Torrez, the stars of the event were the thousands of my fellow citizens who made their presence known and feelings highly visible.

Special Note: I made meaningful contact with everyone you see in these pictures, always asked if I had permission to photograph and show their face online, and always respected their decision. As you can see, most everyone proudly decided to do so.

I’ll allow the pictures to speak mostly for themselves…

View from the stage an hour before things even started (despite it being a blustery day)!

I learned that the best time to meet people was before the speakers started speaking.

This photograph captures only about a fraction of the people gathered.

As you can see from the many smiles, the vibe was totally positive, inclusive, patriotic, peaceful, and hopeful.

Clever as can be!

hands off
Hands off EVERYTHING!

So many messages delivered with a perfect blend of seriousness and good humor.

And no act is too small.

  1. We’re doing them every other week. We need to keep up the momentum because the government always just wait us out and believe that we will simply fade away, like protests always do. We cannot let that happen. Excellent post.

  2. Great to see! I went to the one in San Diego, and the police estimate came out yesterday: About 12,000 participants. It was incredible.

    1. Attaboy, Dan!!! Hearty fist bump for being there!

It’s gladdens and inspires me to know that you’re living with amplitude and purpose!

    1. Teresa’s here! Yay!!! Thanks for celebrating with me!

How are you? And where in the world are you?

Did you see my recent Camino post?

Wishing you all the best wherever you are!

    1. Thanks, Jill. Everyone I talked to was ALL IN and agreed that this was just the beginning of much bigger things to come. Keep on keepin’ on and keep on fighting the good fight.

  3. Super, Frank! I’m delighted to see every one of these reports of our collective action.

You look great! (Activism is therapeutic!) And the truth of your sign is finally breaking through. (Kudos to the woman who thought of “Respect My Existence or Expect My Resistance.” That’s a standout among many fine signs I’ve seen.)

    Cheers,
    Annie

    1. Thanks for the kind words, for celebrating MY continued existence (activism is therapeutic indeed!), and for being such an important part of this growing movement, Annie.

I heartily second your kudos to the lady who thought of “Respect My Existence or Expect My Resistance.” A keeper for sure!

Thanks, as always, for all you do and keep on fighting the good fight!

  4. Great photos LB! How large was the turnout there in ABQ? They estimate something over 6,000 here in Salt Lake City.

    1. Thanks a bunch, BB. And thanks for asking. I haven’t found any official count anywhere, but just eyeballing the attendance I would guess around 4k belly buttons!

You can definitely feel a movement building.

      Cheers, man!

  5. This is wonderful, Frank! What a great turnout you guys had and I’m so glad you connected with others. Lots of great signs there and I especially love HATE NEVER MADE AMERICA GREAT in the crowd shot and, of course, GREED KILLS! So nice to see you. Solidarity!

It’s important that you know that your recent posts really were the tipping point that inspired me to make some signs and show up. BTW, your influence has already spread farther than you can know.

I look forward to seeing how all this unfolds.

Thanks again for all the work you do and keep on keepin’ on!
