About King’s Day (Queen’s Day)

King’s Day (Koningsdag), also called Queen’s Day (Koninginnedag) when a female monarch reigns, is a truly unique celebration of fun, family, friendship, free enterprise, and the enjoyment of simple pleasures.

The festivities kick off with King’s Night the evening before and continue until sundown the next day. Most business are closed as thousands take to the streets and canals. So, dress accordingly and immerse yourself in this sea of orange and good cheer!

I will let the images speak mostly for themselves…

      1. I lived in Amsterdam when I was a kid. 3 years between 2 African postings. I remember the freedom of riding my bicycle everywhere. I have gone back several time for business or pleasure. It’s a city I like very much.

  1. Hi Frank. This is a fun post filled with great images. My husband and I were accidentally in Amsterdam for King’s Day in 2017 and were a bit baffled by all the orange, especially because I hold the firm belief that orange only looks good on people with some melanin. Then we got clued in to what was happening and it made more sense. Still, orange is a hard color to wear well. HA!

    1. Hey Tracy. Thanks for diggin’ the pix. How cool that you were there just the year before. There’s something about orange, yes. Ha! BTW, did you noticed the two guys dressed like T****?

      All the best!

      1. “There’s something about orange…” 🙂 Yes, I did notice the two making the ultimate sacrifice by slathering their faces like Agent Orange. HA

  2. Thanks, Frank. I am glad you are still posting and hope that is an encouraging sign regarding your health. You chose the ideal topic in the right color. Take care, my friend.
