Hadrian’s Wall

Though geographically not part of Scotland, Hadrian’s Wall in Northern England remains an noteworthy part of Scotland’s history. Built to fortify the Northern extent of the Roman Empire in Britain and to control the flow of people and goods, the extent to which it was intended to keep out the Scottish “barbarians” is open to discussion. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

  1. Happy New Year ✨️❤️🌸. Hope you are doing good and healing🤗. I hope you remember me🫠

    1. Of course I remember you, Isha…. You are a very memorable person. I’m doing ok, thanks… and not wasting any heartbeats. Wishing you an authentic and meaningful 2026, sent with a big hug!

    1. Stromness, you bet! Orkney was such an amazing place… mind-blowing natural beauty and a living museum that captures and incredible sweep of history.

Thanks a million for sharing this lovely piece… new to me. It exquisitely captures the spirit and haunting beauty that IS Scotland. You can smell the peat burning and hear the pipes crying!!!

  2. I have been enjoying your pictures, and my memories, of Scotland! Remembering in particular one day on a bicycle trip through the Outer Hebrides almost 30 years ago, when I was flying westward with a lively tailwind toward the Callanish standing stones. What a magical place! Thanks for taking me back.

    1. Thanks so much for the most kind words, Teresa. For many years, I refused to take any photographs of my travels, but learned in time that they have the power to reanimate many pleasant memories. Anyway, the Hebrides are a magical place indeed. I thank you for thanking me for taking you back there. Happy travels!

  3. Very nice foto’s!
I agree with your enthusiasm concerning Scotland. I was there with a nice friend on motorcycle. Maybe the most beautiful country I know. Also because of the special light. Greetings, Rolf

    1. Thanks for the words of appreciation, Rolf. Scotland has drawn me back many times… something about the the special light and good humor of the people I met. All the best!
